C-hook
The coil has a hook – and that’s exactly what matters.
For horizontal coil transport, the C-hook is the lifting device of choice. Individually manufactured and precisely tailored to the specific application, it ensures safe and efficient handling. Because no coil is like another. Good thing we can draw on our experience from hundreds of successfully implemented C-hooks – there’s always a PFEIFER C-hook that fits!
Good to know!

4/4 prong or 3/4 prong?
For C-hooks, 3/4 and 4/4 refer to the ratio of the prong length to the coil width. A 4/4 prong corresponds approximately to the full coil width. A 3/4 prong is reduced to around 75% of the coil width and is used when coils are stored close together or when different coil widths need to be handled with the same hook.

When is a C-hook properly positioned?
A C-hook is properly positioned when, under load, it is horizontal or tilted backwards by up to approximately 5° (in accordance with EN 13155). This ensures that the coil is securely supported and cannot slide off the hook. Never use the C-hook with the prong tip pointing forward!
Additional protection against slipping can also be provided by a safety lug or other structural retaining elements on the hook.

Sensitive coils?
Even sensitive coils can be safely handled with C-hooks. To prevent surface damage, the prongs can be fitted with protective pipe segments, depending on the requirements.
Additional protective plates can be fitted to the vertical shank. Depending on the coil material and surface requirements, these are available in high-strength steel or plastic.
C-hooks in use
C-hooks are used in steel and metal handling to transport coils safely and efficiently by crane. They engage with the coil eye, allowing coils to be quickly picked up, moved and set down without additional lifting accessories.
Typical applications include steel service centers, warehouses, as well as steel production and processing facilities. There, C-hooks are particularly used for internal transport, loading and unloading trucks, and storing and retrieving coils.
C-hooks are primarily designed for repeated use with defined coil dimensions and are adapted to different coil weights, inner diameters and storage conditions depending on the application.
